I am new to burning audio cd's so please excuse the newbie questions.

* is there a free or cheap cd burning software that is recommended? if there was software with my cd-rw drive, it is now lost. I am using the trial version of instantdisc, but it will be $99 when the time comes.

* is there a way to get the song titles associated with the tracks? when I use winamp it uses the filenames. I assume these will help print a disk cover with the titles, but if not, is there another way to do that?

thank you!

Well for free I know musicmatch burns cds(www.musicmatch.com - burns only at 2 or 4x) but I would highly recommend getting nero from www.ahead.de

there is a 30 day free trial for nero and then i believe it costs 50-70 bucks.

There is also a way of getting song names associated with file names. it can be done a few ways:

1) if you are talking about commercial mp3s being burned to cd winamp should be able to pick it up when it connects to CDDB(cd database) at the start of the cd.

2) this is for live cds - you can manually rename each file in nero to have the correct name. make sure you have the cd text turned on so the next time it plays in a cd-text enabled cd player it will say the song name, etc.

I have found sometimes as well that CDDB the database that winamp and windows media player uses has live shows so there is no need to rename the files sometimes.

Hopefully that made some sense:)

are you talking about plain old music cd's or VCD's? eitherway, I'd go with Nero. GREAT program.

Nero is awesome. It has full support for CD-TEXT, indexing (high end CD players allow you to jump to indexes within tracks), individual track pause settings (great for filler which you'd want to space out from the rest of the tracks), and much more.

Astroburn – is the excellent and easy to use burning tool for working with disks, starting from the CD and ending burning Blue-ray’s in HD DVD. There are currently two main versions: Astroburn Lite and Astroburn Pro, and one more tool, which might help you out Astroburn Audio.
The two brothers
Astroburn Lite - will help you burn a disc in just three mouse clicks. It detects all types of optical storage media (including CD-R/RW, DVD-R/RW, DVD + R / RW, BD-R/RE, HD-DVD-R/RW and DVD-RAM) and can record already made .iso or .mdx file in blink of an eye. The product is for those, who value their time and money spent for a program. Yes! It works perfectly in tandem with DAEMON Tool Lite!
Astroburn Pro chosen by experts for its broad capabilities and a large number of useful features in different branches. Like his younger brother, Astroburn Pro can burn CDs and images, as well as quickly erase discs, but most interesting part lies in advanced features. Not only you can burn a disc, but create the project, set the shape of its contents and protect data stored within a password. Also, you’ll get a possibility for burning everything "on the fly".
To whom and what for?
It does not matter: you're working in a library, a large company or just play games - you certainly need a simple solution to burn data. Why choose complex programs, when you can find anything you need in Astroburn products? But, if you are too picky go for Astroburn Pro and burn everything you’ve ever dream about to CD, DVD or Blue-ray.
